2012 BMW 7 Series High Performance Technology

Drivers not only appreciate the agile handling of the aluminium chassis with optional integral Active Steering but also the wide range of intelligent assistance systems such as Head-Up Display, BMW Night Vision with person recognition and Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function. The generation of the 2012 BMW 7 Series Sedan As a rule a luxury-class sedan has reached the highest of all aims. However, there is one sedan that is the exception to this rule and which constantly creates new aims to set new standards: the BMW 7 Series Sedan. The twelve-cylinder BMW 760i and BMW 760Li models represent the top of the fifth generation BMW 7 Series. The BMW TwinPower Turbo V12 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds.

The unique sound of the V8 engine in the BMW 750i/Li is instantly recognisable. The BMW 740i/Li and 740d/Ld are classic straight six-cylinder petrol engines. Particularly efficient is the BMW 730d, without the feeling of any loss in power thanks to 540 Nm. The same applies to the long versions (for example, the BMW 730Ld) that, with 14 centimetres of increased legroom in the rear, make this chauffeur sedan the first choice of those who want to relax without compromising on dynamics.

The eight-cylinder power unit in the BMW 750i provides highest level power and performance while at the same time reducing both fuel consumption and emissions to an even lower level. The V8 with Twin Turbo technology offers maximum output of 300 kW/407 hp. Peak torque is 600 Nm maintained consistently between 1,750 and 4,500 rpm, and accelerating from a standstill to 100 km/h takes just 5.2 seconds. But what are mere numbers in comparison to the unique sound of a V8?

The straight six-cylinder petrol engine in the BMW 740i with an output of 240 kW/326 hp, the BMW straight six-cylinder engine is the most powerful ever. The power unit featured in the BMW 740i comes with the combination of Twin Turbo technology and High Precision Injection exclusive to BMW, offering unparalleled power and performance combined with truly impressive all-round economy. 5.9 seconds is all it takes to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. Engine weight is also much lower, inter alia on account of the all-aluminium crankcase, which naturally benefits the agility of the entire car. Imposing at the front, powerful at the rear, the BMW 7 Series Sedan is a vehicle that exudes confidence. The large kidney grilles emphasize the new BMW 7 Series' imposing presence while the striking shoulder line extends uninterrupted from bonnet to boot, making the car seem longer. The door handles are integrated seamlessly into this shoulder line, creating an inimitable effect even at night.

The straight six-cylinder diesel engines in the BMW 730d, 730Ld and 740d. Sporty performance paired with maximum efficiency: the defining mark of the BMW 740d. An impressive output of 225 kW (306 hp) is delivered by the combination of one large and one small turbocharger, coupling powerful acceleration with heavy drive in the high rev range. With a combined fuel consumption of only 6.8 litres per 100 km and 540 Nm performance, the BMW 730d demonstrates its unique efficiency and confident power in every situation.
The exterior of the BMW 7 Series is 14 centimetres longer than the short version - and all of this is used to increase space and comfort in the rear. The rear door is noticeably bigger, making it significantly easier to enter the vehicle. The interior is the most generously sized in the luxury sedan class, and the roofline and C-pillar have been redesigned to provide additional headroom, for a feeling of greater spaciousness.

The 8-speed automatic transmission Steptronic in the BMW 760i and 760Li. Only the tachometer will reveal how fast and seamlessly the new 8-speed automatic transmission Steptronic shifts gears. The additional gears reduce the engine's rev interval between shifts, so the transmission process is barely noticeable. The eighth gear reduces the number of revolutions at high speeds, tangibly increasing comfort while reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

The six-speed automatic transmission Steptronic in the BMW 7 Series Sedan. The perfectly-spaced gear ratios of the responsive six-speed automatic transmission Steptronic ensure that the vast power of the BMW 7 Series engine is transmitted to the drive wheels with maximum efficiency. A newly developed control shifts gears faster, and when the driver kicks down the accelerator, the automatic transmission will shift back immediately by up to four gears. Minimum converter slip and exact selection of gears increases spontaneity and efficiency and the gears can be shifted manually thanks to the electronic gear selector lever.

To ensure that the superior driving dynamics of the BMW 740d and 750i remain constant on every surface, the intelligent all-wheel drive system xDrive distributes engine power variably to both axles as the situation requires. The system allows the driver to enjoy the full power and agility of the vehicle by providing noticeably more traction on every surface. Whether you are on a winding road, attempting a hill start or tackling slippery surfaces, optimal traction is guaranteed.
Thanks to their particle filter and exhaust-gas recirculation system, the BMW 7 Series Sedan diesel engines have no problems complying with strict EU5 requirements. In 2014, EU6 will mandate a further reduction in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, but the BMW 730d with BMW BluePerformance already meets these EU6 standards today. An oxidising converter collects nitrogen oxide emissions and breaks them down cyclically, unnoticed by the driver. The result: nitrogen and water, which occur naturally in the air we breathe.

High Precision Injection and Twin Turbo in the BMW 740i, 750i and 760i. Two milligrams of petrol – that's how precisely the High Precision Injection (HPI) controls the fuel-air mix. The right dosage of injected fuel is meticulously ensured by the piezo injectors, with only part of the combustion chamber being filled under lower partial loads. Thanks to the Twin Turbo, it is now possible for the straight six-cylinder engine to provide a supreme standard of power and performance previously only conceivable with far larger engines. Engine weight is also much lower, in part on account of the all-aluminium crankcase, which naturally benefits the agility of the entire car and offers more power on less fuel.
The body of the BMW 7 Series offers an exceptionally good balance of optimised weight and all-round solidity. The consistent use of aluminium parts has reduced the overall weight of the car by another 22 kilos, 7 of which are due to the replacement of the steel roof. The resulting change in the centre of gravity makes a significant contribution to the car's agility. This is BMW EfficientDynamics: reduced fuel consumption, increased driving pleasure.
The interior of the BMW 7 Series Sedan is generous space, precise elegance and charming functionality form the character of the BMW 7 Series Sedan. The interior's finish, including a wide range of high-class materials and a handcrafted look, conveys a new interpretation of inviting modernity. A particularly eye-catching feature of the cockpit is the instrument cluster with black panel technology - when not in use, the display is matt black, and it comes to life in several stages when the ignition is started. High-tech, special ceramic material is also offered as an option on selected control elements and switches. The spaciousness offered by the BMW 7 Series Sedan long version is as exclusive and individual as its passengers. The extra 14 centimetres is used to increase legroom while the roofline has been redesigned to provide additional headroom. Individually adjustable seats, extended rear air conditioning and rear-seat entertainment further enhance the modern ambience. Because driving pleasure is not just a front-row experience.
The camera systems in the BMW 7 Series Sedan. Surround View reveals new perspectives. Two front-end cameras are integrated in the front bumper, one on the left and one on the right, to provide an advanced view at crossroads and on narrow roads. The images obtained, transmitted to the Control Display, allow you to identify any oncoming traffic before it can be seen from the driver’s position. Two additional cameras in the wing mirrors monitor the side areas and also generate a bird’s eye view image of the BMW 7 Series Sedan for optimum vision in tight manoeuvres. The Rear View camera also provides welcome support when parking. Interactive lane lines in the image inform the driver whether or not the parking space is large enough.
